and I am grateful.
Today we will--
(my fingers resist the words)--
finally pick up
her ashes,
the ones waiting
until after the holiday
until we could manage
until we were ready
but I don't think I
will ever be.
(me & sweet Margie)
Today we will
gather
what is left,
then walk fierce
and sweet
creekside,
until we can
breathe again,
until we can return
to sort the other
remains: clothes, books,
stained and worn
things she loved,
things she touched,
things she will not touch
again.
Today I will remind myself
she is not here,
not in ash or bone
or cotton and wood:
but here, here,
always here
beneath the beat
of my
heart.
Today I will arm myself
with grace
and beauty.
Today the sky burns bright
and clear
and I will insist
I am
grateful.
(custom bracelet [what I call my gracelet] by Kolleen of HeartWingSisters)
May you be blessed today,
however,
wherever
you are.
May you be comforted.
Love,
Amanda
