gratitude changes lives: Thanksgiving Thursday

Welcome to part #2 of my week-long celebration! Let's wrap up 2011 and dive into 2012 with joy. Catch up on part 1 (2012 word and intentions) and come back Saturday for the big finale--a horn-tooting, pot-banging, sparkling-cider-drinking giveaway! Each post is sprinkled with best-of-2011 links from Persistent Green, along with a few fabulous resources I've found for making this transition to 2012. Enjoy!

Gratitude changes my life.

Nope, I didn't say changed. Why? 'Cause the gratitude practice never ends.

Whenever I find myself grumpy, out of sorts, ruminating on all that's gone wrong? You can bet I've forgotten to give thanks.

Gratitude . . . it's not just a word.

Gratitude strengthens my fragile heart.
Gratitude breaks the spell when I'm paralyzed by possibility and fear.
Gratitude brings perspective and melts away tired grievances.

Gratitude gives me courage to live giant.

Gratitude soothes tired tender-heartedness and brings me back to what matters most.
Gratitude lifts my head from the weight of worry to look up and out.
Gratitude responds with gentleness instead of rising panic.

Gratitude reminds me this journey is so much sweeter when we travel together.
Gratitude shows me what I needed was here all along.
Gratitude opens my eyes to simple grace in this abundantly blessed life.

Gratitude rests in the specifics.
Gratitude sees messengers of hope (even if it takes a while to notice).
Gratitude brings me closer to the one who helps me into the wild blue open.

Gratitude stops trying so hard and sinks into the moment.
Gratitude broadens patience when transformation comes slow.
Gratitude trades worry and whine for singing praise.

Gratitude leans into the coming year with hope and possibility.

How might 2012 unfold if we daily planned for gratitude?
No more waiting to say thank you.
No more ignoring the beauty in every.single.day.
No more back-burnering the parts of life that make you sparkle.
What would happen?

I've been wondering if gratitude is going to be my focus for the next year...it's certainly going to be difficult, given terrible circumstances, but I think totally profound, too.
